Devils Kneading Trough – Wye

Group Guided Walk

Overview:

We’re so excited to continue celebrating the Kent Walking Festival with a weekday hike exploring the dramatic landscapes around Wye, the Devil’s Kneading Trough and Crundale Downs.

Following the North Downs Way through the Kent Downs National Landscape, this walk offers spectacular views, rolling chalk hills and beautiful countryside. Wye is accessible by train from London in approximately 1 hour, making it a lovely escape from the city or great for those local in Kent.

The walk

We’ll start in the picturesque village of Wye and make our way up to the Devil’s Kneading Trough, a striking dry valley shaped during the Ice Age. From here, we’ll enjoy panoramic views across the Kentish countryside and, on a clear day, towards the Channel.

We’ll then join the North Downs Way, following this renowned trail across the rolling chalk hills of the Kent Downs National Landscape.

The route continues across Crundale Downs, an area known for its chalk grassland, seasonal wildflowers and diverse wildlife. With some steady climbs and exposed ridge-top paths, this walk is moderately challenging, but the sweeping views make it well worth the effort.

We’ll then loop back towards Wye, taking in more of the peaceful countryside along the way.

This walk captures the best of the Kent Downs: dramatic valleys, stunning views and the natural beauty of the North Downs Way.

Come and walk with us

Our mixed group walks are open to everyone.

Whether you’re already a regular walker, new to the group, coming on your own or simply looking for a good excuse to get out into the countryside, you’re very welcome. Around 80% of our members come to our walks on their own, and it is one of the things people love most about being part of the group.

You don’t need to know anyone before you arrive. Just bring your walking boots, enjoy the scenery and we’ll take care of the rest.
