Charing Evening Countryside Walk

Group Guided Walk

Overview:

Join us for a relaxed summer evening walk exploring the countryside around Charing. This 5 mile circular route takes in sections of the Greensand Way, peaceful rural landscapes, and the historic heart of the village.

Starting from Charing train station, we head out into the rolling countryside and turn towards Westwell before looping back towards Charing.

This is an enjoyable and sociable walk on a mix of paths, tracks, and quiet country lanes. The terrain is moderate with some gentle inclines, suitable for most walkers with a reasonable level of fitness.

Route Details:

We begin at Charing train station, quickly leaving the village behind as we join a section of the Greensand Way. This well-known long-distance trail runs along the Greensand Ridge, offering attractive countryside scenery as we make our way out of Charing.

Following a mix of tracks and field paths, we head towards Westwell.

We will pass the remains of the Archbishop’s Palace, Charing, once an important residence of the Archbishops of Canterbury. Dating back to the 13th century, the palace played a key role as a stopping point for archbishops travelling between London and Canterbury.

This is a pretty, varied and rewarding circular route through one of Kent’s villages and its surrounding countryside.
