Kent on Foot: MJ Outdoor Adventures
Estimated reading time 4 minutes

Hey there, fellow walkers! If you've stumbled upon our little corner of the internet, then you're in for a treat. Welcome to the official blog of MJ Outdoor Adventures! 🚶♂️🚶♀️
First things first, let's get acquainted. MJ Outdoor Adventures is run by Jenn, a highly qualified Lowland Leader, North Downs Way Ambassador, Ordnance Survey Champion and she's trained in nutrition and hormonal health. She works full time in the outdoors running this group and working freelance as a route marker, event staff, medic, DofE (Bronze and Silver) and walk leader for charities and large corporations.
In her personal time she continues to further her outdoor skills, solo hikes, backpacks, camps, enjoys national trails and explores The Highlands.
Our mission? To walk through the stunning landscapes, uncover hidden gems, and create unforgettable memories along the way in Kent and further afield. Oh, and did I mention we're all about making new friends and embracing diversity?
We know how important it is for the outdoors to be for EVERYONE.
We have three back walkers to make your walks more comfortable; Mike, Teresa and Maria. So you can feel confident regardless of your pace.
So why start walking?
Walking isn't just about putting one foot in front of the other (though that's a big part of it, obviously!). It's a fantastic way to boost both your physical and mental well-being.
Let's start with the physical perks! Not only does walking get your heart pumping and muscles moving, but it's also low-impact, so it's easy on the joints. Plus, it's a great way to sneak in some exercise without feeling like you're, well, exercising. Win-win!
Walking isn't just a workout for your body—it's also a workout for your mind. Studies have shown that spending time outdoors can reduce stress, boost mood, and improve cognitive function. So, the next time you're feeling overwhelmed or just need a break from the hustle and bustle of daily life, grab your shoes and hit the trails. Trust me, you'll thank me later.
But you could walk on a treadmill right? Well there is certainly no harm in that, all movement is good movement after all, BUT, you'd be missing out on what we think is the most important reason...nature! We are so lucky here in Kent to be blessed with endless footpath, view points, history at every corner, plants, wildlife and national trails. Adventure is waiting around every corner.

What to expect from a group walk
Now, let's talk about why walking in a group is where it's at. Sure, solo walks are important, oftentimes I will take myself on a walk to clear my head, but there's something special about sharing the experience with others. Here are a few reasons why we're all about that group life:
- Safety in Numbers: Let's face it—venturing into the great outdoors alone can be a bit daunting if its a new area and your not comfortable with map reading. But when you're surrounded by your fellow walkers, there's strength in numbers. Plus, it's always nice to have someone to lend a hand if you need it. You can turn up and turn your brain off. We have routed the walks for your enjoyment.
- Motivation and Accountability: We've all been there—you plan to go for a walk, but then the call of Netflix and snacks is just too strong. But when you've got a group counting on you, it's a lot harder to cancel. Plus, there's something about the camaraderie of a group walk that keeps you motivated and energized.
- Social Connection: One of the best parts of walking in a group? The opportunity to meet new people and make lifelong friends. Whether you're swapping stories, sharing laughs, or simply enjoying each other's company in silence, there's no denying the power of human connection. Some of our closest friends started as "walking friends". We have now travelled together, laughed and cried together, bonds to share for years ahead.
- Shared Experiences: Memories are made when you're out exploring the world. From epic sunsets, foraging, picnics, view points to unexpected wildlife sightings, every walk is a chance to create lasting memories.
So, there you have it—the lowdown on why walking is awesome and why walking in a group is even better. If you're ready to grab your boots and join us on our adventures, then consider this your official invitation. We can't wait to welcome you into the MJ Outdoor Adventures group.
