Discover the wellbeing benefits of woodland walking in Kent and the Southeast, from reduced stress to stronger fitness and deeper connection with nature.

Forest bathing might sound like a trend, but at its heart, it simply means spending unrushed time in nature and Kent’s woodlands are perfect for it. From the quiet paths of King’s Wood to the towering trees of Bedgebury Forest, these spaces offer something a gym never can: calm, stillness, and the sense of stepping away from everyday noise. Its even prescribed as "medicine" in some countries.

For many women in our walking groups, woodland walks provide an emotional reset. The filtered light, earthy scents and soft ground underfoot naturally slow your pace and settle your breathing. Studies regularly highlight how time among trees can reduce stress hormones and help with low mood or anxiety and anyone who’s taken a quiet morning walk through woodlands knows exactly why.

Woodland trails are excellent for fitness too. Tree-lined slopes offer natural interval training without feeling intimidating, while longer forest circuits help build endurance. Many of our members find that they walk further in woodland without noticing the distance, simply because the surroundings are so peaceful.

In winter, forests feel especially magical. Bare branches reveal new views, frost clings to mossy trunks and the silence is almost complete. In summer, the canopy cools the hottest days.

Whether you’re aiming to build confidence, walk more regularly, or trying to find some headspace, woodland walking is one of the gentlest and most transformative outdoor habits you can start.
